Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign are a revolutionary alternative to braces. Instead of metal brackets and wires, you’re fitted for a series of customized plastic trays that snap over your teeth.

They gently push your teeth into place over the course of several months. You change trays every one to two weeks as your smile corrects.

Which bite related problems can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign is effective in correcting many common smile issues, including:

  • Overbites and underbites
  • Crossbites and open bites
  • Generally crooked teeth
  • Gapped teeth or crowded teeth

The team at Diamond Dental assesses your smile goals to determine if Invisalign is right for you.

What is the process of getting Invisalign?

You first undergo a 3D scan of your teeth, which provides the blueprint for your customized treatment plan. The scan and treatment plan are sent to the Invisalign lab where your aligners are fabricated from a specialized plastic.

When the aligners come in, you wear them for 20-22 hours per day, removing them to eat, drink, and brush. Every week or two, according to the dentists’ directive, you change to the next set of aligners to continue shifting your teeth into their desired position.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign offers many advantages in addition to straighter teeth, including:

  • Near-invisibility: people won’t even notice you’re wearing them
  • Convenience: they’re removable when you eat and drink, so no changes to your diet are necessary
  • Easy to clean: you remove the aligners to brush and floss, so you don’t risk decay under the brackets or long, tedious cleaning episodes
  • Removable: take them out for contact sports, which can cause injury if you have braces, and for special events, like a wedding or prom
  • Easier to maintain: you schedule a checkup every six to eight weeks and don’t need to have brackets that need to be regularly tightened or adjusted

You’ll also experience fewer emergency visits, as there are no wires or brackets that can break or pinch.
